Local Lifestyle
When it comes to luxury lifestyles, the ultra-exclusive community of Kukio is in a class of its own. Often mistaken as a resort, Kukio is a private equity club that offers unparalleled amenities — an oceanfront Clubhouse, an open-air spa, a first-class fitness center, and an outdoor pursuits program.
It's set amongst 1,100 acres of oceanfront property and fronts two of the finest beaches in Hawaii — Uluweuweu and Kua Bays. Once a playground for Hawaiian royalty, Kukio is rich with natural beauty. Coconut groves, lava tubes, and outcroppings are abundant here. Residents benefit from a breathtaking backdrop of sparkling white beaches, lush green fairways, warm ocean waters, and stark black lava outcroppings.
This exclusive community has three distinct areas: Kukio, Ka'upulehu, and Manini'owali. The Sports Complex is located in Manini'owali and offers many activities for family fun. Ka'upulehu is due north of Hualalai Resort, features multiple oceanfront lots, and club membership is included with some of the sites. Most of the Beach and Golf Club amenities are found within the Kukio part of the community.
Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping
What sets Kukio apart from other neighboring communities is its world-class amenities available at the Kukio Beach & Golf Club. Residents can relax with the family while enjoying a delicious meal at the Dining Pavilion or the Beach Bar and taking in the sunset ocean views of Maui in the distance. Like other amenities, dining is only for the club members and their guests.
Things to Do
The Kukio Golf & Beach Club is home to two golf courses — a ten-hole short course and an 18-hole championship course. Both courses were designed by Tom Fazio and are only available to club members and their guests. The 18-hole course boasts extravagant views of the Kohala Coast. The short 10-hole course meanders through the Kukio neighborhood. Both courses' unique settings and designs create a fantastic contrast of emerald green grass, white sand bunkers, dark lava, and the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop.
If you are not into golfing, Mauka fitness programs invite members to lead a more active and healthier lifestyle on and off the water. Customizable island bike tours and hikes to the black-sand beaches are perfect for those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground. Favorites for ocean lovers include outrigger canoe sailing, outrigger canoe paddling, surfing, and swimming with dolphins.
The neighborhood plays host to the Kukio Blue Water Swim, a 1-mile swimming race to Kukio Beach from Manini'owali Beach. A percentage of the entry fee is donated to The Nature Conservancy, which supports and maintains the diverse ecosystem of Hawaii.
